Superintendent of Police Malika Garg has cautioned the people to beware of cybercrimes taking place in the name of LIC bonus.
In a statement here on Sunday, she said that cybercriminals are finding new ways to deceive gullible people. Now they are cheating people in the name of LIC bonus money payments.
“Cybercriminals send links to mobile phones from unknown mobile numbers saying that ‘you have been selected for the additional bonus offered by LIC Company’. Then they call and talk in the local language and make the victim believe that he or she should open the link and check the money,” the SP said.
When the victims click on the link in that message by sharing their personal information, bank account numbers, passwords, and other sensitive information, cybercriminals empty their accounts by withdrawing money as possible, when the victims call back, the phones are switched off and keep personal information and commit other crimes, the SP stated.
The SP suggested that under no circumstances should people click on any link that says that they have received LIC bonus money.
The SP asked people not to click unknown links, and not give information to the unknown persons like mobile numbers and bank account details. She also asked not to share personal information with anybody and not trust messages on cash rewards and scratch cards.
If anyone is cheated in this way, they can immediately inform the police or call the cyber helpline number 1930 or file a complaint on the national cybercrime reporting portal www.cybercrime.gov.in, the district SP informed the public.
