Bhumi Pednekar Brings 90s-Style Comedy Back with ‘Mere Husband Ki Biwi’

Must read

Actor Bhumi Pednekar is excited to take on the comedy genre in her upcoming film Mere Husband Ki Biwi, a move she describes as a refreshing opportunity, especially considering comedy was a dominant genre in 1990s Hindi cinema. The film, directed by Mudassar Aziz, also stars Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh, and delves into the quirks and complexities of romantic relationships.

At the trailer launch of the film, Pednekar shared her enthusiasm about stepping into a comedic role, a genre she feels is often overlooked for female actors. “I grew up watching films in this genre and was inspired by actresses like Karisma Kapoor and others who brought comedy to the forefront,” Pednekar said. “I’m glad Mudassar sir gave me the opportunity to try my hand at comedy in two of his films, Pati Patni Aur Woh and Mere Husband Ki Biwi.”

Pednekar expressed that it’s rare for female actors to lead in comedy films, making this a significant chance for her to break new ground. “In this film, both female actors take on comedy in a way that was common in the 90s, where actresses would lead the comedic roles just like in the Number One series films,” she added, referring to the iconic films of that era.

The film’s focus on romantic relationships, paired with its comedic elements, sets the stage for an entertaining experience, with both Pednekar and Singh embracing their comedic roles.

During the conversation, Pednekar was asked about the common perception of rivalry between female actors. She firmly dismissed the idea of ego clashes and insecurities on set, especially between her and her co-star Rakul Preet Singh. “She is my sister. She’s married to my best friend (Jackky Bhagnani), and now she has become one of my closest friends. This narrative that two heroines are insecure is not true—it must have been started by insecure men,” Pednekar shared, emphasizing the strong bond she shares with Singh.

The film’s producer, Vashu Bhagnani, along with Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh, brings Mere Husband Ki Biwi to the screen, promising a mix of humor and heart. Set to release on February 21, the film will explore the humorous side of complex romantic dynamics, with Bhumi Pednekar, Arjun Kapoor, and Rakul Preet Singh taking center stage.

With the promise of a fun-filled, refreshing take on relationships, Mere Husband Ki Biwi is sure to be a treat for fans of comedy, offering both entertainment and the delightful chemistry between its lead actors.
