Bid to steal newborn from Guntur GGH foiled, woman held

The attempt to steal a newborn from the Government General Hospital was foiled on Sunday. The accused, a woman, woman was apprehended and the newborn was restored to the mother.

A woman Bhargavi pretending to be an attendant of a woman, who gave birth to a baby in the GGH, allegedly tried to steal the newborn in the MCH block. Carrying the newborn in her hands, the accused woman tried to flee from the GGH. But with her attempt failing, she hid in the hospital. Finally, the hospital security and staff found her.

GGH Superintendent Dr KVV Vijay Kumar said that the woman was caught and the newborn was reunited with her mother. The hospital security personnel handed over the accused woman to the police at the outpost.

The Superintendent said that an inquiry would be held on the incident and a report would be submitted to the Collector.
He said that he had directed the security agency to reduce the visiting hours and ensure that such incidents do not recur in the GGH.
