BJP asks KTR to quit after Mounika’s death

Must read

The BJP has asked Municipal Administration Minister KT Ramarao to resign taking responsibility for the death of 11- year-old Mounika.

Telangana BJP President Sanjay said that Mounika died due to the GHMC’s failure. He said that KTR should resign taking responsibility for the continuous deaths due to manholes, pits and stray dogs.

In a tweet, Sanjay said, “It is very unfortunate that 11-year-old Mounika fell into a drain in Secunderabad and died while trying to help her brother. It is definitely a failure of the GHMC. Owning up responsibility for the series of deaths caused by manholes, potholes and stray dogs, Municipal Minister #TwitterTillu should resign. How many more deaths will it take for the Municipal Administration department to get the basics right? The fantasy world created by drone photo shoots hide realities. @bjp4telangana demands immediate inspection of all open drains and manholes and steps to secure them before tragedies happen again. We demand justice for Mounika’s family suffering due to the negligence of the Municipal Minister.”

Union Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy said that incidents like the death of Mounika were taking place due to the lack of coordination between the GHMC and the R&B department.

He said that Mounika died after falling into a drain due to the digging of an adjacent road. He said that GHMC contractors staged a dharna alleging that the government is not paying for works worth Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

He said that civic facilities are not improving although the GHMC is getting billions as revenue.

He said that the TS government is getting 80 per cent of its revenue from Hyderabad but the GHMC and HWSSB were not given adequate funds.

Rajya Sabha Member Dr K. Laxman said that Mounika died due to the BRS government’s incompetence. KTR’s words and his work does not match, he said. He asked KTR to take responsibility for the GHMC’s failure and quit.
