BJP Kishan Morcha activists stage dharna, arrested

The BJP Kishan Morcha activists staged a dharna in front of the office of the Agriculture Commissioner here on Tuesday demanding the government to declare 403 mandals as drought-affected.
The BJP Kishan Morcha activists squatted in front of the office and raised slogans. When the police prevented them, a jostle took place between the BJP Kishan Morcha activists and the police leading to a tense situation for some time.  The police arrested the BJP Kishan Morcha leaders and whisked them away to the police station.
BJP Kishan Morcha state president Chigurupati Kumar Swamy condemned the police’s excessive behaviour against the BJP Kishan Morcha activists. He said that the police arrested even women farmers for demanding to declare drought-affected mandals, he deplored.
He demanded the resignation of the Agriculture minister and the Irrigation minister for their failure to take steps to mitigate the drought situation. The government miserably failed to assess the drought situation and take steps to tackle it, he flayed.
The BJP leader said that they wanted to give a memorandum to the agriculture Commissioner but the police prevented them.
He questioned the government about the problem of declaring 403 mandals as drought-affected.
