Body-worn cameras for city traffic cops

Must read

Hyderabad Commissioner of Police CV Anand distributed 100 body-worn cameras to frontline traffic officers. These cameras allow for the recording of interactions with the public during enforcement activities, accidents and other incidents.

The live feed from these cameras can be monitored from the Traffic Control Room, promoting transparency and accountability in traffic management while addressing false claims made against officers.

During the distribution event, Commissioner Anand highlighted the importance of these cameras, stating, “These cameras are crucial and have been used in foreign countries. When people are fined or issued citations, they may become angry and abusive towards traffic police. Similarly, there may be instances where the behavior of the police needs monitoring. This initiative serves as a preventive measure, as all interactions will be monitored, leading to responsible behavior from both citizens and officers. This advanced system ensures that all recorded footage is directly sent to the control room.”

In addition to the distribution of body-worn cameras, Commissioner Anand also carried out a welfare activity by providing kits to traffic constables and home guards. These kits included raincoats, rain boots, glucose packets, water bottles and sunglasses. Furthermore, patrol officers were equipped with rugged tablets to enhance their response to emergency calls received through the Dial 100 helpline. These tablets enable officers to screen suspects, monitor individuals with a history of criminal activities using internal applications and geospatial features, and access real-time data from the department.

The implementation of body-worn cameras aims to promote professionalism, transparency and accountability among traffic officers while improving public trust and ensuring fair enforcement of traffic regulations.
