BRS, BJP wooing Chiru with eye on Kapu votes

Must read

The BRS and the BJP are in a race to bag megastar Chiranjeevi to send a message to the Kapu community, an important vote bank. Union Minister Anurag Thakur visited the former Congress MP’s home. Sources said that be it NTR or Chiranjeevi, a Union Minister meeting them is important and it plays a crucial role in politics. Almost all political parties in both the Telugu states rely in part on the support of Kapu sub-sects. So either they woo top leaders of the community or split the vote bank.

With Pawan Kalyan allying with the TDP which neither BRS nor BJP like, they seem to have reoriented towards Chiranjeevi.

Anurag Thakur tweeted, “Wonderful being at Chiranjeevi’s home in Hyderabad and meeting Nagarjuna and Allu Aravind. Grateful for your valuable insights into the world of cinema, your plans ahead and how we can make this India’s content century. Your art has inspired millions globally.”

Sources said that politics will obviously figure in these discussions. This comes 10 days after Chiranjeevi hailed Thota Chandrashekar, the AP unit president of the BRS, for organising a blood donation camp on KCR’s birthday.

“We look forward to a continued “blood” relationship for years to come. Thanking you and wishing you the best,” Chiranjeevi and Ramcharan said in a letter.

Sources said that Chiranjeevi has good ties with a lot of politicians irrespective of parties. They said that Chiranjeevi is neutral currently and he is very clear that he doesn’t want to engage in direct politics.

The sources indicated that he is supporting Pawan Kalyan internally and doing the groundwork for him. During his political career, the Kapu card had played a crucial role in fetching votes and Chiranjeevi was seen as a person uniting the community. The Kapu community is significant electorally and political parties cannot afford to ignore them.
