The Reddy community got a big share in the list of BRS Assembly election candidates announced by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao as usual. The Velama community came second. The Madiga community also came second along with the Velamas. In fact, the Velamas got first place in terms of percentage if seats are compared with their population.
The Munnuru Kapu community stood next, that is, fourth and the Mala community came fifth.
The upper castes got 59 constituencies of the 115 announced. Forty candidates got tickets from the Reddy community, 11 from the Velama community, five from the Kamma community and one each from the Brahmin and Vaishya communities.
The BCs, who comprise more than 50 per cent of the population, got 22 tickets. Of this, 10 are Munnuru Kapu, five are Yadava, four are Gowda and three are Muslims. The BCs would be only 19 only if Muslims are removed from the BCs list.
Out of 19 SCs, the Madiga community got 11 constituencies (the party allotted a general seat to one Madiga candidate that is Karwan), the Mala community got eight constituencies and one went to the Nethakani community.
Of the 12 ST seats, the Lambadas got seven seats and Adivasis five seats.
In fact, the number of Reddys will increase further if candidates for Jangaon and Narsapur constituencies are announced as both constituencies have Reddys as sitting MLAs. Most probably the BRS will give these two seats to the Reddys.
