The Karnataka election results will definitely impact the Telangana Assembly elections as it has boosted the morale of Telangana Congress leaders, who were saying that the Karnataka results would repeat in Telangana too.
That means the ruling BRS will face defeat in Telangana like in Karnataka if Congress leaders’ statements become reality.
The BRS government would be the loser if Karnataka results are repeated in Telangana and so the BRS will have to prepare plans to prevent a repeat of Karnataka in Telangana.
Sources said the BRS is implementing an already prepared plan to stop the opposition parties from winning the Telangana Assembly elections. The BRS strategy is to “play a balancing act to split the opposition vote between the Congress and the BJP” and score a hat-trick in Telangana.
With this strategy, the BRS will try to split anti-incumbency votes between the BJP and the Congress. The BRS will win with its own vote bank if anti-incumbency votes get divided between the Congress and the BJP.
In Karnataka, the BJP failed to ensure that anti-incumbency votes split between the Congress and the JDS and so it was defeated although it managed to protect its vote share, that is, around 38 per cent.
The Congress successfully bagged anti-incumbency votes without giving a chance to the JDS. Moreover, the Congress succeeded in getting Muslim votes in toto by giving tickets to many Muslims.
The BRS will win a third time if it protects its vote bank and splits anti-incumbency votes between the Congress and the BJP in Telangana. It is this strategy that the BRS is going to adopt in the Telangana Assembly elections.
“It may not be a tough task for the BRS as it has already made Muslim and Christian voters to vote for the BRS from 2014 without getting their votes split. There are some BC groups who mostly vote for the BRS,” a BRS leader told ‘The Pioneer.’
It was due to this that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao stated at the BRS plenary held on April 27 in Hyderabad that winning elections is not at all a task for the BRS but winning more than 100 seats is its real task.
The BRS leadership is planning to play a balancing act to see that the BJP and the Congress is at the same level by encouraging or discouraging the BJP and the Congress as the situation demands.
Both the BJP and the Congress are not seriously fighting on any issue on behalf of the people at present.
For example, both the BJP and the Congress have been criticising the BRS government regarding the Dharani Portal but they never went to the ground level to launch a fight on behalf of the people facing problems, a political observer told ‘The Pioneer’ on condition of anonymity. He said that mere criticism of the Dharani Portal by the BJP and the Congress will not win the hearts of the people.
Pointing out that only an unexpected political development can help the BJP and the Congress to win, he said that otherwise it is certain that the BRS will register a hat-trick victory in Telangana.
He added that the BRS will get the support of the MIM if any unexpected development takes place.
