In an incident reported from Suraram on December 15, a burglar made the bizarre demand that he would surrender only to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy after he was cornered by the police.
In an attempt to escape, the burglar jumped into a nearby pond and perched himself like a duck on a rock in the middle. The police were unable to catch him as the pond was filled with sewage water. They tried to persuade him to surrender which he flatly refused and then raised his peculiar demand leaving the men in khaki perplexed.
Standing on the rock wearing just undergarments, he shouted that he would surrender only in the presence of CM Revanth Reddy and the media.
Baffled, the police tried their best to make him change his mind in vain. It soon turned dark and the ‘defeated’ police left the place leaving the man sitting on the rock for the rest of the night.
Standing on the rock, he shouted he would surrender only in the presence of CM Revanth Reddy and the media. However, as the coast became clear, the burglar escaped and vanished into the nearby forest.
Suraram Inspector M. Venkateswara Rao told reporters, “We suspect the thief might have swam across and entered the Lal Sab Guda forest. We have to conduct a combing operation in the forest to find him. I can’t rule out the possibility of him having drowned in the lake.”
An irritated Venkateswara Rao asked why the incident was given so much publicity. “Why is the media giving him attention like Charles Sobhraj?” he fumed.
An FIR has been registered under Section 393 (attempt to commit burglary). The police are on the lookout for the burglar.
