Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav inspected the Nala works at Begumpet and examined the progress of the project on Thursday. He ordered the officials to complete the excavation and demolish the illegal encroachments along the nala immediately. He ordered the officials to speed up the work and finish it by february.

He said, “The excavation in the nala and the illegal constructions and encroachments along the nala should be removed immediately. The canals are encroached upon and they are not maintained well. Every year during the rainy season, the colonies and houses around the canals get flooded and the people have faced many problems. But no one cared about their problems in the past. The Telangana government has taken steps to find a permanent solution to this problem for many years.”

He further said that Strategic Nala Development Program (SNDP) has been undertaken to fully develop the canals of the city under the special initiative of Municipal Minister KT Rama Rao. As part of the programme, Begumpet Nala development work has been started at a cost of Rs 45 crore.

Development works like construction of retaining walls and removal of silt are being carried out on both sides of the nala. After the completion of nala development works, drainage, water pipelines and road construction works will be taken up in the surrounding colonies of the nala.

The Minister also inspected Gayatri Nagar Nala in Ameerpet division. After a complaint made by the local people that the nala was encroached, he ordered the officials to remove the encroachments immediately. The officers were directed to submit proposals on the measures.
