Canoeing and Kayaking State meet organised in River Krishna

Andhra Pradesh Canoeing and Kayaking Association and the NTR District unit organised the Sub Junior, Junior and Senior State Championship at the river Krishna waterfront in Vijayawada on Sunday. As many as 50 athletes and 10 coaches participated in the meet.

Former minister and Vijayawada West MLA Velampalli Srinivasa Rao and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Mayor Rayana Bhagylalakshmi inaugurated the championship here on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Srinivasa Rao said that the State government was committed to encouraging sports and games. The government is ready to provide evening coaching to students from government schools and allocating suitable spaces through the city municipality is commendable, he said.

AP State Canoeing and Kayaking Water Sports Association president B Balaram Naidu emphasised that these competitions aimed to identify the finest talents for the Goa National Games and provide intense training. He expressed satisfaction over the remarkable progress of water sports in the State. The support extended by local leaders and authorities is noteworthy, he added.

He said that the fervour for water sports among athletes was praiseworthy. The thriving water sports scene underscores the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to fostering a vibrant sports culture, he said.

VMC Corporator Rehamunnisa, AP State Water Sports Chairman Pradeep Naidu, AP Canoeing and Kayaking Association treasurer Jagadeesh and others were present.

After the completion of the competitions, the selection committee picked the best players for the State men’s team to participate in the nationals to be conducted in Uttarakhand from September 12 to 17.
