Captain Vijayakanth passes away at 71

Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) founder and veteran actor Vijayakanth, fondly called ‘Captain’, passed away at a private hospital in Chennai on Thursday. He was 71.
“Captain Vijayakanth was on ventilatory support following his admission for pneumonia. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he passed away in the morning on 28th December 2023,” read a statement from the MIOT International Hospital.
Recognized as a senior film actor, he had acted in more than 100 films, amongst which many were also translated in Hindi and Telugu. His 100th film “Captain Prabhakar” became a blockbuster in all languages. He served as the President of the South Indian Film Artists Association (Chennai) between 2000-2006.
Apart from the entertainment industry, he was also the founder of DMDK party in the state of Tamil Nadu.
Several actors, and filmmakers  from the industry, Telugu Film Board of Trade Secretary K.L. Damodar Prasad, Telugu Film Producers Council Secretary T. Prasanna Kumar, and Movie Artists Association, Vice President Madala Ravi poured in their condolences.
