The Commerce Department of PB Siddhartha Arts and Science College, Moghalrajapuram, organised an ‘Audit Diwas’ for the benefit of the student community, on the college premises in Vijayawada on Wednesday. Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) South India Regional Council (SIRC) secretary Nitta Ravi Kishore was the chief guest at the event and he spoke about the importance of Audit Diwas.

Speaking on the occasion, Nitta Ravi Kishore said that the British government established the office of the Comptroller & Audit General (CAG) on November 16, 1860. The Central government decided to observe November 16 as Audit Diwas last year. The CAG is one of the statutory positions given by the Constitution, he added. He further said that CAG had sole powers to audit the State and Central governments’ income and expenditures and give advice and suggestions to both the governments. Students may choose Chartered Accountant (CA) courses and settle as an auditor after the completion of the course. Later, auditors may become CAG members or start their practices, he added.

Chartered accountant Gaddam Satyanarayana, who is a senior practising auditor, stressed the importance of CAG and explained how it had been playing a key role in protecting the public money spent by the State and Central governments. CAs have a bright future. Students can choose this course because there is a huge shortage of auditors in India, he said. He added that students should be focusing on their studies, and then they could complete the CA course successfully. Students can go for CA rather than professional courses such as engineering.

PB Siddhartha College Principal Dr M Ramesh, College Director V Babu Rao, Dean Prof Rajesh C Jampala, Commerce Department in-charge HOD K Narayana Rao and others were present.
