Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu said that caste census should be done if there is a Backward Classes sub-plan. He discussed various issues with Backward Classes intellectuals and officials in the caste census meeting held at the Secretariat on Friday evening.
The wealth of the country is in the hands of a few, and most of the people are unable to meet their basic needs. The Deputy Chief Minister is of the opinion that caste census has to be done to remove these gaps. He inquired officials about the manner in which the survey was successfully conducted and passed into law in Bihar along with various states regarding the caste census. He said that the State Cabinet is committed to conducting caste census. The Deputy Chief Minister explained to the Backward Classes leaders that Rahul Gandhi had made it clear during the Assembly election that he would set an example for the country that he would conduct caste enumeration when he came to power in Telangana.
He reminded that he had translated Rahul Gandhi’s speech into vision. The Deputy Chief Minister shared with the intellectuals of BC that although some of the opposition criticised the resolution of caste system as a conspiracy, we approved the resolution in the cabinet and it was unanimously approved in the assembly. Caste enumeration is not just for political recruitment but should distribute wealth of the country according to population. “Where is the wealth, how many are the landless poor, backwardness in education, those who are homeless, those who do not have two-wheelers, all these aspects will come to light in the caste census survey”, he said. “Did you find all these points in the survey done in Bihar?”, he asked the officials. He said that in order to benefit from the BC sub plan, a caste census should be done. The state government’s unanimous approval of the caste enumeration resolution in the Assembly was described as a revolutionary step. The Deputy CM requested the intellectuals of BC to take this historical issue to the public through seminars, media meetings and conferences in universities.

BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said that by introducing the Caste Census resolution in the Assembly, a phase has commenced. “We were honest and passed the caste census resolution without any difference of opinion in the cabinet”, Minister said. Ponnam Prabhakar said that this matter has been put on public demand. Former Justice Chandra Kumar said that the people understood that the Congress government was sincere in the matter of caste census. He appreciated that the Congress government will be in power for another 15 years with this program. Akunuri Murali, Education Department Principal Secretary Burra Venkatesam and others participated in the program.
