NTR District Collector Dr G Srijana, accompanied by Jaggayyapet MLA Sriram Rajagopal (alias Tataiah), Joint Collector Dr P. Sampath Kumar, and Nandigama RDO A. Ravindra Rao, on Monday visited the cement factory where a boiler blast resulted in the death of a worker injuries to over 20 workers
The Collector held discussions with the factory management and the victims’ families. A cheque for Rs. 50 lakh was handed to Avula Venkatesh’s wife and family, along with an agreement document from Ultratech Cement.
Addressing the media, Dr Srijana expressed her commitment to supporting the victims’ families and assured that financial support from the government would be distributed soon. She highlighted directives from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and discussed with the factory management ways to ensure justice for the victims’ families.
Moreover, she promised employment opportunities in the cement factory for Venkatesh’s wife or other family members. She also mentioned educational support for children in Gurukul Schools, as well as the compensation for the injured workers.
Dr Srijana announced the formation of a committee, with the presence of MLA Sriram Rajagopal, to address issues such as drinking water, roads, and pollution in Budavada village. She mentioned a coordination meeting would be conducted at the district level following discussions with the factory management and the victims’ families.
Furthermore, she stated that the district administration would conduct a medical camp in Budavada village, offering specialist consultations in Urology, Nephrology, Cardiology, Dermatology, and other fields. She urged the victims’ families and villagers to plan for their future without overreacting.
MLA Sriram Rajagopal reported that 16 people were injured in the incident and mentioned that CM N. Chandrababu Naidu, along with Ministers Nara Lokesh and Kollu Ravindra, were closely monitoring the situation. He assured that the state government is taking all necessary steps to provide compensation to the victims following the law.
Collector Srijana expressed her dissatisfaction with Nandigama RDO A. Ravindra Rao and Jaggayyapet Tahsildar G.V. Seshagiri for their delayed response to the incident. She criticized the handling of the situation, including the police lathi charge at the factory, and pointed out Tahsildar Seshagiri’s apparent prioritization of sand over people’s concerns.
