MLC K. Kavitha lashed out at the attempts of the BJP government at the Centre to weaken and eventually wind up MGNREGS, pushing the rural poor into poverty. She said the massive cut in the funds allocated for the scheme in the latest Union Budget indicates the Centre’s plans to end it.
After meeting with representatives of the MGNREGS Association here on Thursday, Kavitha said the Union Government allocated only Rs 60,000 crore for MGNREGS, which was the lowest allocation for the scheme in the last five years.
