Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath has announced that the Ministry of National Highways has approved plans for a six-lane flyover extending from Mahanadu Road to the Nidamanuru Railway Bridge, as well as the Eastern Bypass, thanks to the efforts of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
Addressing a media conference at NTR Bhavan in Vijayawada on Saturday, the MP revealed that work on the flyover will soon commence.
He explained that within the next month, National Highway authorities will coordinate with relevant departments to finalize the flyover’s design. Although a Detailed Project Report (DPR) is already prepared, a revised version must be submitted within the same timeframe. The tendering process is expected to start in two months, with construction slated to begin around February or March 2025. The project is projected to be completed in two years. Additionally, radial roads from Ramavarappadu to Gannavaram will be constructed before the flyover work begins. An allocation of approximately Rs 800 crore has been designated for this flyover.
Regarding the Eastern Bypass, MP Sivanath indicated that funds will be allocated in the next two months, with ongoing alignment assessments. Both the state and central governments are working to initiate the bypass construction before March. The Eastern Bypass is anticipated to be operational in about three-and-a-half years, with a total investment of Rs 2,500 crore.
In the Parliament sessions, MP Sivanath has raised various issues concerning Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu recently met Union Road and National Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi to discuss Vijayawada’s traffic issues and submitted a proposal for the Mahanadu Junction to Nidamanuru Railway Bridge flyover, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion.
The MP also highlighted that the NDA government is supportive of the State’s development. Plans are underway to transform Vijayawada railway station under the Amrit Bharat scheme to cater to passenger needs for the next 50 years.
