Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vikas Raj chaired a meeting with the DEOs of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal and Sangareddy on Wednesday.

The CEO discussed in detail on how to address issues related to combating voter apathy in urban areas and directed DEOs to come up with a specific SVEEP campaign for the areas in and around the GHMC. The CEO further asked the DEOs to come up with standard operating procedures (SoP) on different aspects with respect to verification of door numbers and electors details.

He reviewed the progress of instructions issued in the earlier meetings to the DEOs regarding verification of deletions to ensure that no genuine voter is left behind.

The DEOs of the four districts expressed their views on the steps to be taken on the electoral rolls, polling station proposals specifically where multiple booths are there at the same location and other election-related works to be taken up in the run up to elections. They further mentioned that they will come up with detailed action plans and SoP for all these activities and submit a report shortly.

The DEOs mentioned that they will come up with a dedicated SVEEP plan for the urban and semi-urban areas. The major focus presently would be on updating of the door numbers wherever electors are residing in a building with multiple portions or apartments in different families and also to collect the phone numbers of the voters so that election-related information can also be sent to them directly.

The BLOs would be visiting all such households and will be collecting Form-8 from the electors to correct their door numbers. It was decided to involve resident welfare associations (RWA) to improve voter participation and corrections of door numbers. An associated campaign on this will also be carried out in social media.
