Chandrababu promises to clear Neeru-Chettu pending bills

TDP national president N Chandrababu Naidu has assured that the pending Neeru-Chettu bills of Rs.425 crore will be cleared soon after forming the government, said Andhra Pradesh Water Users Associations’ Federation president and TDP Neeru-Chettu Pending Bills Grievances Cell in-charge Alla Venkata Gopala Krishna Rao.
He said that the works were completed during the period from 2014 to 2019. The Water Users Association’s presidents spent Rs.1,303 crore for 18,544 works in all 13 districts. However, he said, the previous government harassed all WUA presidents by not paying pending bills to the tune of Rs. 425 crore.
APWUA’s Federation president Alla Venkata Gopala Krishna Rao, on Thursday night, met TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu at his residence at Undavalli and submitted the details of dues of the Neeru-Chettu bills which have been unpaid since 2019. Also, he explained their fight against the previous government for taking bills. After a detailed discussion, Chandrababu assured Alla Gopala Krishna Rao that his government would pay all dues soon after forming the government.
In this connection, Alla spoke to the media at his office in Vijayawada on Friday and said that all WUA presidents were farmers and they did the Neeru-Chettu works during the TDP regime. In 13 districts, 18,544 works were done and for that, WUA presidents spent Rs.1,303 crore. However, the YSRCP government did not pay these dues. Also, the government harassed farmers by issuing several memos without paying bills, he added.
Later, in 2021, the Neeru-Chettu Grievances Cell was opened at the TDP national office and after that, farmers filed 9,391 writ petitions in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, he said. Though the AP High Court had directed the government to clear pending bills, the government did not obey the order. Subsequently, the farmers filed 6,625 contempt petitions, he added.
As a result, the State government issued around 20 GOs between March 2022 and April 2024, and paid Rs.968 crore. Bills worth around Rs.425 crore are still pending and the federation has invited Chandrababu’s attention to the issue. Chandrababu assured that after verifying the details, the government will pay the Neeru-Chettu pending bills, he explained.
