Changing perspectives on parenthood

Must read

As societal attitudes toward gender roles evolve, so do perspectives on parenting. Millennials, having witnessed the challenges faced by previous generations, are redefining what it means to be a parent. The emphasis is shifting from quantity to quality, with many choosing to prioritize meaningful connections with their children over adhering to traditional family structures.

“The changing perspectives on parenthood among millennial women are marked by a departure from traditional norms and a focus on individualized choices. For example, many women are challenging the notion that parenthood must follow a predetermined timeline. In the past, societal expectations often dictated that marriage and children should occur within a specific timeframe. However, millennials are embracing a more flexible approach, recognizing that life paths vary and that there is no one-size-fits-all model for fulfillment,” says Geeta Gokhale, employed in a corporate entity in Secunderabad.

Moreover, the shift in perspectives is evident in the redefinition of what it means to be a parent. Unlike previous generations that might have adhered strictly to conventional family structures, millennials are placing a greater emphasis on the quality of their relationships with their children rather than conforming to traditional roles. This can be seen in the increasing number of shared parenting responsibilities, where both partners actively participate in childcare and household duties, breaking away from stereotypical gender roles.
