Cheating case filed against CGM

The Suryaraopeta police have apprehended a retired Chief General Manager (CGM) from the Electricity department on charges of deceiving a fellow retiree in securing government jobs. Veerla Ravi, the accused, is alleged to have defrauded Akula Venkata Appa Rao to the tune of Rs 21 lakhs. According to the complaint filed by Akula Venkata Appa Rao, a resident of Guntur, he had served as an assistant engineer in the electricity department in Vijayawada and retired in 2012. The accused, Veerla Ravi, who held the position of Chief General Manager in the same office, retired on June 30, 2023. Ravi is accused of accepting a sum of Rs 33 lakhs from Rao under the pretext of facilitating job opportunities for known individuals, subsequently defrauding them. Notably, Ravi did return Rs 12 lakhs in two installments. Ravi had assured Rao that the remaining amount would be returned after receiving his retirement benefits. However, Ravi failed to fulfill this promise.
The accused issued three State Bank of India (SBI) cheques and three promissory notes to the complainant. Subsequently, when Ravi received a retirement amount totalling Rs 90 lakh, he allegedly redirected the funds to another bank account, refusing to repay the owed sum and thereby deceiving the complainant. The police have registered a case and are actively conducting an investigation into the matter.
