Vijayawada’s prodigious archer, Bommadevara Dheeraj, has made history by securing three gold medals in the Asia Cup Stage-1 held in Baghdad. Competing under the Indian flag, Dheeraj emerged triumphant in the individual, team, and mixed events in Archery Recurve, bringing immense pride to his hometown. He formed a formidable partnership with Tarun Deep in the team event and showcased his skill alongside Simrajith Kour in the mixed event during the ongoing tournament, which commenced on February 20.
Honing his craft at the esteemed Cherukuri Volga Archery Academy in Vijayawada, Dheeraj’s journey in archery commenced in 2006. Over the course of 18 years, he has ascended to the summit of his sport, becoming India’s foremost archer and earning a coveted spot in the Paris Olympics. His stellar performance adds to his already impressive resume, which includes a silver medal in the 2023 Asian Games.
Cherukuri Satyanarayana, president of the Andhra Pradesh Archery Association and Chief Coach at Cherukuri Volga Archery Academy, along with other dignitaries, lauded Bommadevara Dheeraj for his remarkable feat of clinching three gold medals at the Asia Cup Stage-1.
