City set for transformation with underground power cable network TGSPDCL to call for EoI for the project

The Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) has initiated a groundbreaking project to replace overhead power lines with underground (UG) cables across Greater Hyderabad. The shift to UG cabling aims to enhance the city’s power network reliability, bolster public safety, improve operational efficiency, and elevate Hyderabad’s aesthetic appeal. “This initiative will not only address safety concerns but also help position Hyderabad as a global city,” stated the TGSPDCL Chairman.
To support the implementation of this project, TGSPDCL has begun identifying competent parties with proven expertise in underground cabling in large cities or internationally. The DISCOM has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI), encouraging interested firms to participate. Detailed information is available on their official website, tgsouthernpower.org.
Hyderabad’s existing power infrastructure under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) jurisdiction is extensive, comprising 498 33/11 KV substations, 1,280 kilometers of 33 KV underground cables, and 3,725 kilometers of 33 KV overhead lines. The network also includes 1,022 power transformers, 957 kilometers of 11 KV underground cables, 21,643 kilometers of 11 KV overhead lines, 1,50,992 distribution transformers, and 58,271 intermediate poles.
This UG cabling project represents a significant step towards modernizing Hyderabad’s power infrastructure and reflects the city’s commitment to sustainable and efficient urban development.
