The residents of the Nadeem Colony in Tolichowki are left with no hope as they have experienced no relief from the open nala. The people living in the vicinity have health, sanitation issues and works for this drainage line have been neglected for years. There is no response for their representations they sent to the authorities concerned. Though the stretch of open nala is said to be sanctioned multiple times over the years there is no improvement.

Syed Suhaib Ahmed, a Techie, eco warrior says, “Many complaints have been raised by residents of  Nadeem Colony since the past 15 years  about this open nala issue with various government officials but to no avail.”

The demands are to lay the internal road near Omer Function Hall leading towards the open nala, which is in a very bad shape. The road around the drainage is full of manholes and has been washed away by rains making commuting very difficult. On being asked why people are throwing garbage on the road, they pointed out that nominal payment is also difficult for them and they are dumping it on one road so that the GHMC staff clears it, but it is only being cleaned occasionally by the sanitation department.

Another important request the colony people have is improvement of drainage system. Whenever it rains, the roads are turned into running streams with huge inflow of water gushing, so much that it drowns the vehicles and roads become blocked for commuting until the water subsides.

In a letter written tot Lokesh Kumar, Commissioner, GHMC, the colony members said, “We the law-abiding citizens, professionals and NRIs residing in Nadeem Colony, Tolichowki, most respectfully and humbly submit that our colony has been in a state of neglect, especially the stretch of road near Omer Function Hall is in a state of complete disarray.

This under-developed area in the colony needs your immediate attention for the provision of basic civic amenities on par with planned and developed colonies of the city on a priority basis.”
