CM Jagan to unveil ‘Statue of Social Justice’ tomorrow

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will unveil Dr BR Ambedkar’s 125-foot statue on Friday. On the occasion, he posted a message on X, in which he said the towering figure reflects his immense contribution to India’s social, economic, political, and gender landscapes. “Even a century later, his visionary words echo, steering the nation towards progress. Recognizing his enduring principles, our government has woven them into the ‘Navaratnalu’ initiatives. This January 19th, join us in celebrating this momentous occasion and recommitting to Ambedkar’s legacy of equality and justice,” he added.
He termed it the ‘Statue of Social Justice’. “The Government of Andhra Pradesh contemplated that a statue of DR BR Ambedkar shall be installed at a prominent place for the people to show reverence and draw inspiration. Keeping in view that location of the statue must be accessible to everyone, the historic place Swaraj Maidan is opted for the project….,” the CM said.
Swaraj Maidan is hereby renamed as Dr BR Ambedkar Swaraj Maidan. Social Welfare Department as Nodal agency and Andhra Pradesh Industrial infrastructure Corporation as executing agency the project is developed. The contractor agency KPC Projects Ltd, Hyderabad, executed the work. The project is designed by Design Associates, Noida designed and developed the whole area which include Dr BR Ambedkar Experience Centre, Convention Centre of 2,000 seating capacity, food court, children’s play area, water bodies, musical fountain, long walkways.
The project was launched on December 21, 2021, with the aim to inaugurate the statue by April 14, 2023.
The statue is made of steel framing and bronze cladding, which is completely made in India. It is made of 400 MT of stainless steel and 120Mt of bronze.
