Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has commended AP power utilities for clinching three prestigious ‘Enertia’ awards, marking a major achievement in the State’s commitment to sustainable development goals. Andhra Pradesh was honoured with three prestigious awards by Falcon Media and the Enertia Foundation for its strides in promoting clean, green renewable energy, meeting Renewable Power Purchase Obligation, and securing the top spot as the State Utility for Energy and Infrastructure.
The 16th Enertia Award-2023 from the Enertia Foundation recognised the Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APTRANSCO) as the “Top State Utility for Energy and Infrastructure.” Additionally, the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd. (NREDCAP) received the accolade for being “India’s Top Renewable Energy (RE) Nodal Agency,” specifically commended for its promotion of Pumped Storage Power Projects. The State as a whole received recognition as the “Best State in meeting Renewable Power Purchase Obligation.”
During a meeting at the CM Camp office in Vijayawada on Monday, Special Chief Secretary Energy K Vijayanand briefed Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy about the Enertia awards won by AP. The Chief Minister extended congratulations to the power utilities for their outstanding achievements, emphasising the need for continued efforts to position the AP Power sector as the nation’s premier entity in the future.
Highlighting the operational achievements of APTRANSCO, Special Chief Secretary Energy K Vijayanand outlined key performance indicators, including a remarkable Transmission System Availability factor of 99.7% (surpassing the regulatory benchmark of 99.5%) and limited Transmission losses at 2.74% (below the approved levels of 3%). Vijayanand also noted that APTRANSCO earned recognition
as India’s most reliable State TRANSCO and GRID Operator, playing a pivotal role in supporting the state’s economic growth and accommodating large quantities of renewable energy.
Vijayanand elucidated the contributions of NREDCAP, citing the State Government’s promotion policies such as the AP Renewable Energy Export Policy 2020, AP Pumped Storage Promotion Policy 2022, and AP Green Energy and Green Ammonia Promotion Policy 2023, designed to encourage green energy generation for a sustainable future.
He highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s leadership in identifying potential sites for Pumped Storage Hydro Power Projects, noting that 37 probable locations with an aggregate potential of 41,020 MW have undergone Techno-Commercial Feasibility Reports. Detailed Project Reports for the most viable locations are currently under preparation in a phased manner, reflecting the state’s commitment to balancing Variable Renewable Energy generation and meeting peak power demand.
