Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy inaugurated the Lakkasagaram Lift Irrigation Pump House, a project with a budget of Rs 224.31 crore. This new infrastructure is set to benefit 77 irrigation tanks and enable the cultivation of 10,394 acres of land across constituencies, including Done, Aluru, Pathikonda, and Panyam. Moreover, it will also facilitate the supply of drinking and irrigation water from the main canal of the Handri-Niva Sujala Sravanthi project.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy officially launched the project by switching on the motors and unveiling the commemorative plaque at Lakkasagaram on Tuesday.
He took the opportunity to highlight the neglect the project faced under the previous TDP regime, where foundation stones were laid merely for political gain, only to be abandoned by the former Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu.
Emphasising his government’s commitment to the welfare of farmers, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy reiterated that his administration had promised to transform the constituency into a model one during his Padayatra, and he is determined to fulfil this pledge.
Furthermore, he expressed awareness of the importance of water resources and the challenges faced by the people of Rayalaseema. Consequently, the project was expedited over the last four years. In contrast, he accused Naidu of making empty promises during his term and commended his government for its sincerity and determination to complete the project promptly. The newly inaugurated canal is expected to deliver 1.24 TMCs of water to arid lands.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy also highlighted the remarkable progress in irrigation projects during his tenure, such as the Gajuladinne and Sanjeevaiah Sagar project, which has seen its capacity increase from 4.5 TMC to 5 TMC, benefiting 24,372 acres.
He criticised Naidu’s administration for its failure to prioritise such critical initiatives, accusing it of pursuing a policy of plunder, hoarding, and negligence during its rule.
Moreover, he compared the budget allocations for the Handri-Niva project, with Naidu’s administration allotting a mere Rs. 13 crore, while his father had allocated Rs 6,000 crore, laying the groundwork for its completion.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy also highlighted his administration’s efforts in increasing the capacity of the Pothireddy Padu Head Regulator from 11,000 cusecs to 80,000 cusecs, emphasising Naidu’s lack of vision in this regard.
He further praised his government’s commitment to the welfare of the people, noting that over the past four years, Rs. 2,35,000 crore has been allocated to Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes, benefiting countless women and others. He contrasted this with Naidu’s tenure, where the budget remained the same, yet he failed to implement similar schemes.
In his closing remarks, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy accused Naidu of once again eyeing public funds and engaging in the same plunder, hoard, and neglect policies. He underscored his administration’s achievements, including filling over 53,000 vacancies in the Medical and Health Department in the last 50 months, and lamented Naidu’s efforts to discredit the government for political gain.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy called upon the people to consider the benefits they have received through various welfare measures and encouraged them to support the YSRCP in the upcoming elections.
The event saw the participation of several key figures, including Finance Minister B. Rajendranath Reddy, who praised Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy for addressing drought-related issues in constituencies such as Pathikonda, Mantralayama, and Done, which had been neglected for years. Also present were Labour and Employment Minister G Jayaram, Irrigation Minister A Rambabu, Finance Minister B Rajendranath Reddy, and YSRCP MLAs S Chakrapani Reddy, Sudhakar, Hafiz Khan, K Rambhupal Reddy, T Arth, along with other public representatives and senior officials, who warmly welcomed the Chief Minister at Orvakallu airport.
