Drawing inspiration from the Constitution, the State government has been working for ensuring social justice by implementing various welfare schemes in a most transparent manner, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has said.
The CM, along with Governor Biswabusan Harichandan, participated in National Constitution Day celebrations held at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram here on Saturday and paid glowing tributes to the portrait of the Architect of the Constitution, Dr BR Ambedkar.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that the Indian Constitution was drafted by Dr BR Ambedkar after studying the constitutions of 80 countries.The Constitution of India is the rule book that teaches discipline to all. “Our country is home to many castes and religions. For 72 years, this Constitution has rewritten the history of social groups,” he said.
Reiterating that the Constitution stands for the downtrodden, the Chief Minister said that the government is moving ahead with a number of welfare schemes to ensure that all sections are benefited in accordance with the Constitution and standing as a role model for other States. A 125-feet statue of Dr BR Ambedkar will be unveiled here in April 2023, he said.
Andhra Pradesh was the first State in the country which brought revolutionary changes in society through ‘Grama Swaraj’ and by establishing Village/ Ward secretariats, the Chief Minister said, adding that around 50 percent of the nominated posts were designated to the BCs, SCs, STs and Minorities.
Highlighting the welfare schemes, he said that the government is also giving away house titles to women and trying to eliminate discrimination with development and many welfare schemes. Around 70 percent of the council of ministers are BCs, SCs, STs and Minorities. A BC leader was appointed as Speaker, an SC leader man as Chairman of the Legislative Council and a Minority representative as Deputy Chairperson of the Council, he said.
Later, speaking on the occasion, Governor Harichandan said, “The people can never forget the contribution of the makers of the Constitution, for giving the people the principles on which we derive our freedom and equality to ensure harmony in society.”
He said that this year, Constitution Day is being celebrated with the theme ‘Bharat: Loktantra ki Janani – India: The Mother of Democracy’, to highlight the idea that the concept of democracy was prevalent in the region since the time of the Vedas.
He said that India, with all its plurality, is today one the world’s largest successfully working democracies, as Indians are infused with the spirit of equality, and have had a ‘loktantrika-parampara’, since the ancient Vedic times. Governor Harichandan said that Dharma, the religious and moral law governing individual conduct, originated from the Vedas, and is an age-old concept that has been the core of Indian society.
“It is one of the many sources of modern law that is shaping our society. He further said that the Constitution empowers the citizens by protecting their rights and the citizens empower the Constitution by adhering to their duties.”At YSRCP Central Office (Tadepalli), Ministers Adimulapu Suresh and Ch Venu Gopala Krishna, Bapatla MP Nandigam Suresh, MLCs L Appi Reddy, Janga Krishna Murthy, and Jupudi Prabhakar also participated in National Constitution Day celebrations and paid tributes to the portrait of Dr BR Ambedkar.
