The government is preparing to relaunch Anna Canteens, aiming to provide meals to the poor starting on Independence Day, August 15. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate an Anna Canteen in Gudivada, Krishna district, on August 15. District authorities are making all necessary arrangements for the event.
Initially, the launch was planned for Uttarandhra, but due to the MLC elections in Visakhapatnam and the election code in effect, the venue was shifted to Gudivada.
A total of 100 canteens will be opened in the first phase on Independence Day.
The government has decided to establish these canteens in 33 selected municipal and urban local bodies in districts unaffected by the election code. Municipal Administration Minister Narayana has been coordinating with officials to determine the locations and number of canteens. These facilities will be fully operational starting August 16.
On Tuesday, Minister Narayana inspected the Akshayapatra Kitchen in Atmakur, Mangalagiri mandal, Guntur district.
He later addressed the media, stating that he reviewed the arrangements for food distribution to the canteens. He mentioned that during the previous TDP government, 180 canteens were set up across the state, serving meals to 4.60 crore people at a cost of Rs 5 per meal. The food was provided in a clean and hygienic environment. However, the Anna Canteens were closed after the YSRCP government came to power. Upon the return of the alliance government, it was decided to reopen the canteens to continue serving the poor.
The minister also mentioned that Akshayapatra has been awarded the contract for food distribution to the Anna Canteens. On August 15, CM Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the Anna Canteen in Gudivada. The government plans to open 180 canteens in urban areas and over 200 canteens in rural areas. These canteens will be strategically located near markets and hospitals where there is a high concentration of poor people.
Minister Narayana highlighted the modern and hygienic standards of the Akshayapatra kitchen.
