CM to open fishing harbour today

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is set to inaugurate the Juvvaladinne fishing harbour, constructed with Rs 289 crore, benefiting 25,000 fishing families on Tuesday. Alongside, the CM will disburse the 5th installment of ONGC compensation, amounting to Rs 161.86 crore, with a single click from the CM’s camp office to 23,458 fishing families in Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema and Kakinada districts, who lost their livelihoods due to ONGC pipeline works. Each family will receive Rs 11,500 per month for six months, totalling Rs 69,000.
The Andhra Pradesh government has thus far provided a total compensation of Rs 647.44 crore to fishing families affected by the ONGC pipeline, including the current installment of Rs 161.86 crore.
Dr Seediri Appalaraju, Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development, highlighted that the fishing harbour is expected to increase the annual marine fish production by 41,250 TPA (Tonnes per Annum). Cold chain infrastructure, including ice plants and chill rooms, has been set up to ensure better market prices and retain the freshness of sea fish/prawns. Additionally, infrastructure such as boat repair workshops, gear sheds, and net mending sheds have been provided to benefit fishermen.
In a bid to prevent distress migration and enhance the livelihoods of coastal fishermen, the government has undertaken the construction of 10 fishing harbours and six fish landing centres of world-class standards at a cost of Rs. 3,793 crore. While the Juvvaladinne fishing harbour is being inaugurated today, construction works on other fish landing centres are progressing rapidly.
The Andhra Pradesh government has embarked on significant initiatives to boost fisheries exports by constructing four ports at a cost of approximately Rs 16,000 crore in the last 58 months. Construction work on these ports is advancing swiftly, promising to create large-scale employment opportunities and reduce transportation costs for exports.
The YSRCP government has extended assistance totalling Rs 4,913 crore to the fisheries sector through various schemes in the last 58 months.
