West Godavari District Collector Chadalavada Nagarani has encouraged residents to install solar panels on their rooftops and generate solar power under the ‘Prime Minister’s Surya Ghar Mufti Bijli Yojana’.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Collector highlighted that solar power is an effective solution to rising electricity bills and urged citizens to take advantage of the scheme, which enables the generation of solar power at a subsidized cost.
“The Central Government, through the PM Surya Ghar Mufti Bijli Yojana, aims to provide solar power to one crore households across the country at a subsidised rate. Under this scheme, each household can install solar panels to generate up to 3 kW of power, with a subsidy of Rs 78,000,” said Collector Nagarani, urging people to seize this opportunity.
She explained the subsidy details, stating, “The Central Government offers ?30,000 per kilowatt as a subsidy. For a 2 kW system, the subsidy is ?60,000, and for a 3 kW system, it is Rs 78,000. Installing a 3 kW solar panel system costs Rs 1.45 lakh, of which the Centre provides Rs 78,000 as a subsidy. The remaining amount can be financed through bank loans without requiring collateral.”
The Collector also outlined the space requirements for installation. For households consuming 0-150 units of electricity per month, 1-2 kW panels can be installed in just 100 square feet. Similarly, for those consuming 150-300 units, 2-3 kW panels can be installed.
She clarified that the maximum subsidy available is ?78,000. Consumers can use the electricity generated to meet their needs and sell the surplus through net metering. “The DISCOM will pay ?2.83 for each unit of electricity sold,” she added.
Residents are urged to make the most of this scheme to reduce their electricity costs and contribute to sustainable energy usage.
