NTR District Collector Dr G Lakshmisha held the District-Level Monitoring Committee and Joint Committee meetings for the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) at the collectorate in Vijayawada on Thursday. During the meeting, the Collector unveiled the poster for Crop Insurance for the Rabi season 2024-25. NTR District Agriculture Officer DMF Vijaya Kumari, Horticulture Officer P Balaji Kumar, and several farmers attended the meeting.
Lakhsmisha said that the crop insurance would help the farmers if they lost their crops in natural calamities. The State and Central governments are implementing the PMFBY scheme to protect the farmers’ income. The crop insurance is optional, he added. He urged the relevant officials to raise awareness among farmers about the benefits of the crop insurance scheme. Farmers need to understand the total sum insured, the premium, and how these amounts are calculated. To facilitate this, he instructed the agricultural and horticultural officials to conduct a special campaign throughout the district encouraging farmers to register for the crop insurance scheme.
Meanwhile, he informed that the Tata AIG General Insurance Company is the implementing agency in the NTR district. However, farmers have to pay Rs.126 premium for the sum assured amount of Rs.42,000 per acre to paddy and maize, he added.
Further, he said that all farmers should pay their premiums for the crop insurance scheme by December 15. On the other hand, farmers could pay their premium amounts through online, digital payments and the National Crop Insurance Portal website, he said. Later, Collector Lakshmisha and Joint Collector Dr Nidhi Meena released the poster for natural farming and booklets regarding pest management.
Chief Planning Officer Y Srilatha, KVK Scientist Siva Prasad, Irrigation Department DSE Krishna Prasad, Tata AIG General Insurance Company representative U Satish, progressive farmers S Sambasiva Rao and U Madhava Rao attended the meeting.
