‘Committed to protect maternal health’

Minister for Women and Child Welfare V Usha Sricharan reiterated that the government is committed to protect the health of pregnant women and children and nutritious food is being provided to them through Anganwadi centres.

The minister held a meeting with the officials here on Wednesday and reviewed the steps being taken to protect the health of women, children and pregnant women.

Talking to the media on the occasion, she said that a review was conducted with the officials of Women Development and Child Welfare Department of Guntur, Palnadu, Bapatla, Ongole and Nellore Districts in Ongole Zone to provide better services to pregnant women, infants and children through Anganwadi centres.

Usha Sricharan said that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has given utmost priority to the health of women and children and is providing nutrition to pregnant women, infants and children through Anganvadi centres, stating that pregnant women and children are being provided with good nutritious food including eggs and milk.

The minister said that anganvadi foundation schools, satellite schools and Anganvadi centres are being equipped with furniture and complete infrastructure facilities, adding that through the newly implemented family doctor system in the Department of Health, better medical services would be provided to the women and children though the anganwadi centres with PHC and CHC medical officers.

Minister Usha Sricharan said that in the three and a half years since Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took charge, the women and child welfare department has spent three times more funds than the funds spent by the previous government in five years.

Mobile phones are provided to every Anganvadi worker, and the matters happening at the field level are known from time to time through the online dashboard and necessary measures are being taken. ZP chairperson Henry Christina and other officials were present.
