Cong leader’s son held for murdering wife

A Youth Congress leader was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife in their house here, police said on Saturday.

The accused took his wife to a private hospital in the city on July 14 for a head injury and doctors declared her brought dead.

After investigations based on the autopsy report, the police arrested Vallabh Reddy, (29), on July 26 for allegedly murdering his 27-year-old wife Lahari Reddy following a scuffle.

Vallabh Reddy is the son of Congress leader Rangasai Reddy, a former MPP of Nidumanuru mandal in Nalgonda district. Vallabh got married to Lahari Reddy around 15 months ago.

On July 14, there was a scuffle between the couple at their residence and due to sudden provocation, Vallabh allegedly assaulted his wife and banged her head against the wall and a door frame, a police official of Narayanaguda Police Station said.

The woman fell down unconscious and was immediately taken to a hospital by her husband but doctors declared her brought dead, the official said.

The hospital informed the police and the police initially registered a case under Section 174 of Cr.PC (suspicious death).

The woman’s father Jaipal Reddy also lodged a complaint with the police.

The post-mortem report said that the woman had suffered internal injuries in the abdomen, the official said and added, “Based on that we altered the Sections to IPC Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destroying evidence of offence).”

During the investigation, it was found that the accused had cleaned blood from the floor and other places after allegedly murdering his wife, police added.
