The BRS would organise a ‘Chalo Medigadda’ programme on March 1 and BRS MLAs and MPs would visit the Barrage.
BRS Working President KT Rama Rao said on Tuesday that the Congress government wants all three barrages to fail so that it can ultimately blame KCR. During the tour, the BRS would explain to the people the facts behind the sagging of the Meddigadda Barrage’s pillars.
Although KCR would not participate in the Chalo Medigadda protest, KTR said a bus would be arranged from Telangana Bhavan to show that the Congress government is deliberately trying to blow up the Medigadda Barrage issue.
“The Medigadda Barrage can be repaired in two months if a coffer dam is built around the three piers that cracked. Take whatever action you want, but prioritise repairs. The minor damage should not be magnified for political mileage as if the entire barrage is gone. The needs of farmers must be given top priority. We demand that a coffer dam should be built. At least start one pump if not all the pumps,” KTR said.
He said that this is not the first time dams face problems. “In Telangana irrigation projects are not viable due to geography. So the cost–benefit ratio approach for the Kaleshwaram Project is wrong. If we think in terms of profits alone then the country shouldn’t have hospitals, schools etc,” he said.
“Making the sagging of the Medigadda Barrage’s pillars an excuse the Congress Government wants to demolish it. There were glitches in the Kaddem, Gundlavagu, Musi, Singur, Pulichintala and Prakasam Barrages built by the Congress Government. There are engineering solutions available to correct problems in all these projects,” KTR said
