The Congress’ Chintan Shivir held in Udaipur had discussed the proposal to grant only one party ticket to a family. However, this comes with a caveat that a second member of a family can be considered for a ticket if they have worked at least five years for the party.

Using this provision many Telangana Congress leaders have applied for party tickets to contest the Assembly elections. The leaders made their family members file applications seeking tickets.

Many leaders made their heirs file applications seeking tickets besides they themselves filing applications for tickets. Some families applied for tickets in the same constituency.

The Congress received around 1,000 applications before the deadline ended on Friday.

The Yellandu constituency received a record 38 applications. Nalgonda MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and his wife former MLA Uttam Padmavathi Reddy filed applications seeking tickets for Huzur Nagar and Kodad. Interestingly, MIC TV chief Annapareddy Appi Reddy, OZO Foundation Chairman Pillutla Raghu also applied for the Huzur Nagar ticket.

Former Deputy Chief Minister Damodara Raja Narsimha made his daughter Thrishala file an application for a ticket from Andole.

Former Union Minister Surve Sathyanarayana who has been staying away from party activities for the last several years applied for the Cantonment ticket. He said that he had applied for a ticket after a phone call came to him from New Delhi.

“I stayed away from party activities making it clear that I will stay away from the party till the party removes Uttam Kumar Reddy and RC Khuntia from their posts. I came back because the party removed them from their posts. I am contesting from Cantonment as the party is giving a chance to me,” he said.
