Congress MLC Jeevan Reddy placed under house arrest

Jagtial Police on Thursday placed former minister and Congress MLC T Jeevan Reddy under house arrest as he was on his way to Pasigam village under the Dharmapuri constituency. The Congress leader was going to the village to express his solidarity with the villagers who were protesting against setting up an ethanol manufacturing unit. 

A group of policemen led by Jagtial Circle Inspector of Police Ramachandra Rao went to the house of Jeevan Reddy and told him that he was placed under house arrest. The Congress leaders registered a strong protest with the police. 

Apart from Jeevan Reddy, the police placed Congress party Jagtial district unit president Adluri Laxman Kumar too under house arrest in Dharmapuri. Dharmapuri town Circle Inspector of Police Koteswar told Laxman Kumar that he was placed under house arrest to prevent him from going to Pasigam village.  

The people in Pasigam and neighbouring villages have been carrying on agitation against setting up an ethanol manufacturing unit because of the fear it may cause pollution in the villages. The Congress party pledged its support to the agitating villagers. 

The police also placed Jagtial Municipal Council Congress party floor leader Kallepalli Durgaiah, former civil body vice-chairman and others under house arrest along with Jeevan Reddy.          

Congress party senior leaders Juvvadi Krishna Ra and Congress leaders Alluri Mahender Reddy, Perumandla Satyanarayana, Bajanna, Srikanth Reddy and Surender Reddy condemned the police for placing Jeevan Reddy and other Congress leaders under house arrest.
