Congress slams YSRCP for seeking extension of Hyderabad as joint capital

Must read

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee senior vice-president G Niranjan criticised YSRCP leader YV Subba Reddy for seeking an extension of Hyderabad as the joint capital of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for two more years.
The statement is to mislead the people of two Telugu States ahead of Lok Sabha elections, he said. He made it clear that the People of Telangana, Telangana Congress and the Congress government in Telangana would never accept such a proposal. Since Hyderabad is the capital of the united Andhra Pradesh, it has been included in the AP Reorganisation Act allowing Hyderabad to be the joint capital for 10 years to help the Andhra Pradesh government to build a new capital. Telangana people agreed to the proposal of joint capital for 10 years to help the AP government build a new capital.
While speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, Niranjan said that Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone for the new capital in Andhra Pradesh on October 22, 2015. The 33,000 acres of land have been acquired to build the capital in Amaravati and the work has also started.
A deadline was set as June 15. 2016 to complete all works of the new capital and move all the departments of Andhra Pradesh to Amaravati from Hyderabad, he recalled. The Andhra Pradesh employees too were asked to move to Amaravati by July 27, 2916. The shifting had been completed. In 2019, the then Governor ESL Narasimhan through an order handed over the Andhra government office buildings in Telangana to the Telangana government.
Now what is the rationale behind seeking an extension of Hyderabad being the joint capital for two more years when there is no office building for the Andhra government in Telangana, he asked.
He alleged that Jagan’s Tughlaq rule is the reason for not having capital even after 10 years. There is no need to be surprised if Jagan who advocated three capitals, wins again, may put forth a proposal to build a capital for each district, he felt.
