In a horrifying incident in the Cooperative Colony here on Thursday, a police constable took the lives of his wife and two daughters before ending his own life with his service revolver.
According to information provided by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shariff at a press conference, the deceased constable, identified as Venkateswarulu (50), had been stationed at the Two Town police station in the city. On the fateful night, Venkateswarulu returned home from duty and retrieved his service revolver from the police station. After midnight, he unleashed a shocking act of violence, fatally shooting his wife and two daughters at point-blank range before taking his own life.
DSP Shariff revealed that four rounds were fired in total during this devastating incident.
Disturbingly, a suicide note was discovered at the scene, in which the constable requested that all of his properties be transferred to his second wife, Ramadevi. The deceased had also gone to great lengths to prepare the necessary documents for this transfer. The police have taken Ramadevi into custody for questioning as part of their ongoing investigation.
One of the deceased daughters was pursuing her education at a private college,
while the other was studying Intermediate. The police have initiated a case in connection with this heart-wrenching incident, and the bodies have been transferred to RIMS hospital for postmortem examinations.
Superintendent of Police Siddartha Koushal, along with other senior officials, visited the crime scene to assess the situation. Deputy Chief Minister SB Amzath Basha and City Mayor Suresh Babu also expressed their condolences and enquired about the
incident while viewing the bodies.
