Municipal councillors in the civic body on Tuesday raised a banner of revolt against the Chairperson and Vice-Chairman by serving a notice to move a no-trust move against them. The dissidence in the ruling BRS party is posing new problems for the party.
The councillors handed over the notice to the district administration, saying that they decided to move a no-confidence motion against the Municipal Chairperson S Venkatarani Siddu and vice-chairman Kotta Haribabu.
A total of 20 councillors served notices and handed over the copy to Additional Collector (Local Bodies) TS Diwakara. As many as 20 out of 30 councillors affixed their signatures on the notice.
The dissident councillors claimed that the Chairperson and Vice-Chairman have lost the confidence of the people because they had failed to fulfil the promises given to the electorate. Moreover, they alleged that the councillors were given scant respect.
Serving notice to move no-trust move by 20 councillors is posting a major problem for the ruling party leaders. At a time when elections are approaching, the development is causing a problem for the leadership.
BRS Jayashankar Bhupalapally unit president Gandra Jyothi and local MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy swung into action to persuade the dissident councillors to withdraw the notice.
