CPI criticises Centre’s move to give Advani Bharat Ratna

Must read

Criticising the announcement of Bharat Ratna for the BJP’s veteran leader LK Advani, CPI Secretary Narayana asked how the Centre could confer Bharat Ratna on Advani when he was supposed to be in jail.
He said that Advani’s 1990 Rath Yatra for constructing the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya led to communal riots. Speaking to the media on Sunday, he recalled that many lost their lives and many others were injured in communal riots. Narayana said that Advani was also an accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case. What message does the Centre want to give to the nation by announcing a Bharat Ratna for Advani, Narayana asked.
He said that it was not right for Rahul Gandhi to contest from Kerala. There are many constituencies across the nation where Rahul can contest. It is not good for Rahul to contest elections from the constituencies of parties of the INDI Alliance. The Congress has to move forward taking others along with it as a big brother in the INDI Alliance, he said.
Narayana said that the CPI is going to contest in 30 to 35 constituencies across the nation in the Lok Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, CPI General Secretary D. Raja said that if the BJP comes to power a third time it would be a ‘disaster’ for the country and that the CPI would try to defeat the BJP in the LS elections.
