The CPM has demanded the government to allocate funds for the extension of Guntur channel to Purchur.

The CPM district committee meeting was held here on Wednesday. Addressing the meeting, state executive committee member Ch Babu Rao said that agitation has been carried out for the last 60 years demanding the extension of Guntur channel to Purchur but the governments did not respond.

“If the Guntur channel is extended to Purchur, drinking water can be provided to 50 villages and irrigation water can be provided to 50,000 acres. The government should allocate funds for the extension of Guntur channel immediately,” the CPM leader demanded.

Babu Rao warned of intensifying agitation if the government did not respond. Taking a dig at the BJP led Central government, he said that the BJP is creating communal hatred among people in the name of Common Civil Code.

Due to the wrong policies of the Central government, the prices of essential commodities and petrol and diesel have spiraled, he lamented.

The CPM leader underlined the need of fighting the Central government’s policies in united. CPM district secretary Pasham Rama Rao strongly objected to the exorbitant power tariff. He said that power tariff hike in the name of true up charges and other charges. He appealed to the government to issue land pattas to 20,000 families who have been residing in the government lands for the last 20 years in Mangalagiri.

The district committee meeting passed a resolution demanding that all tenant farmers should be issued identity card and crop loans without the signature of the land owner. CPM leaders Y Netaji, Eemani Appa Rao, SS Chengaiah, M Rvi and L Aruna were among those who were present.
