The CPI (M) staged a dharna in front of the Tahsildar office here on Monday in protest against the rise of essential commodities and demanding the state government to reduce the power tariff.
The CPM activists led by city secretary G Ramesh and state committee member YS Siddaiah squatted on the road and raised slogans protesting the spiraling of essential commodities. The CPM gave a call to organize protest darnas in front of all mandal kendras across the state today.
State committee member Siddaiah said that the prices of essential commodities continued to rise. The spiraling of prices of essential commodities has started since the BJP came to power, he alleged. He recalled that the domestic gas cylinder price was Rs 450 before the BJP came to power and the same is now at Rs 1150. The price of petrol was Rs 60 before the BJP came to power and the same is being sold at Rs 112, he lashed out. The rise of essential commodities badly hit the common men, he lamented.
The CPM leader regretted that adding to the woes of the people, the Jagan Mohan Reddy government had hiked the power tariff by imposing surcharges, customer charges, and true-up charges. The CPM leaders demanded a reduction in power tariff. CPM state committee members P Kalpana, Tambi Srinivasulu, SD Hussain, Sriram Srinivasulu, and Attinti Srinivasulu were among those who participated in the dharna.
