CPM stages protest against water meters

CPM organised a protest against the installation of meters for water taps by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, at Krishna Lanka on Friday. The CPM leaders held placards and raised slogans against the installation of meters for water taps in the city.

The party cadre conducted door-to-door visits and explained why the installation of meters should be objected to.Speaking on the occasion, CPM State secretary Ch Babu Rao alleged that the Central and State governments were doing business with citizens’ services in the name of urban reforms. He gave a call to organise a State-wide agitation.

“There is a secret agenda behind the installation of water meters. The ruling YSRCP is trying to allot drinking water supply to corporate companies,” he said.He further said that the State government was installing water meters in commercial buildings and apartments.

But, the same meters are installed in people’s houses, which would be an additional burden for them. The Central government showed the Amrith Scheme funds and imposed conditions. With these conditions, water charges may increase, he added.
