Director General of Police KV Rajendranath Reddy has said that the crime rate in Kurnool and Nandyal district has come down and the crimes against women have also dwindled.

The DGP held a crime review meeting here on Wednesday in which Kurnool, Nandyala SPs, Additional SPs and other police officials were present. Speaking on the occasion, the DGP said since the police officials and police personnel worked efficiently the crime rate had come down. He said that policing would further be improved by using the latest technology.

The DGP said that as per the NCRB date, during the last three years, 26,000 missing cases had been registered of which 23,300 had been traced and they were reunited with their family.

The law and order situation in the combined Kurnool district is under control. The crime rate has been regulated. The crime rate has come down considerably during the last six months, the DGP added.

DGP Rajendranath Reddy said that grave crimes including bodily offences, murders, dowry deaths and murder attempts have dipped by 27% percent in Kurnool district and the same dwindled by 25% in Nandyal district.

“The crimes against women have decreased by 46% in Kurnool district and 65% in Nandyal district. The road accidents have plummeted by 39% in Kurnool district and 36% in Nanyala district. The atrocities against the SCs/STs have also come down by 27%,” the DGP informed.

“The crimes against women have vastly been regulated with the launching of the Disha app. A large number of complaints are being received through the Disha app from women and the complaints are being resolved quickly resulting in the crimes against women having fallen” the DGP claimed.

The DGP explained that conviction based policing is being implemented from 2022 which has yielded good results. “The investigation in 100 cases out of a total 122 cases has been completed. Cases of crimes against women, POCSO cases and other serious crimes have been identified on a pilot basis and investigated efficiently. In these 100 cases, courts sentenced the accused to prison terms ranging from death penalty to 30 to 40 years,” the DGP said.

“This year, a total of 13,000 cases have been allocated under conviction-based policing at the rate of 10 cases per police officer and in 1400 cases, the trial has been completed and a record 62 percent conviction rate has been achieved. We are solving serious crimes within 3 months through targeted fast track courts,” the DGP asserted.

At the same time, a strict vigil is being laid on the anti-social elements. All steps were taken to curb crimes, he stated. The Prevention Detention Act (PD Act) has been invoked against 35 criminals, he said. Promotions are being given to the eligible police officers and the supernumerary DSPs were promoted as regular DSPs.
