CS directs officials to be vigilant in wake of floods in Bhadrachalam

Officials have been directed to remain vigilant amidst widespread rains in the state.
Chief Secretary Santi Kumari reviewed flood situation in Pedda Vagu via teleconference. In response to the significant flood in the Pedda Vagu of Bhadrachalam district’s Aswaraopeta, Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari held a teleconference this evening with the Bhadrachalam District Collector, Superintendent of Police, and senior officials from the Irrigation Department to review the relief and rehabilitation measures.
Director General of Police Jitender, Director General of Disaster Management, and Irrigation Department Secretary Rahul Bojja also participated in the teleconference.
Santi Kumari emphasised that the Chief Minister has issued clear instructions to avoid any loss of life. Due to the lifting of three gates of Pedda Vagu, floodwaters entered four nearby villages, trapping 28 farmers in agricultural fields.
Revenue and Disaster Management teams promptly deployed and rescued the trapped individuals with the assistance of two helicopters, relocating them to safe areas, according to the District Collector. The process to evacuate another 20 people to safe areas is ongoing. NDRF and state rescue teams are currently engaged in relief and rehabilitation activities. District Collector Jitesh mentioned that the evacuation of residents from Gummadivelli, Koyagudem, Kothuru, and Gajulapalli villages to relief camps is in progress. Shanti Kumari reiterated the priority of ensuring the safety of lives and assured that necessary assistance from Hyderabad is available. She also instructed district authorities to take preventive measures to prevent breaches in nearby tanks and ponds.
DGP Jitender stated that the police force has been instructed to assist in the relief efforts. Rahul Bojja of the Irrigation Department explained that the gates had to be lifted due to a sudden inflow of 40,000 cusecs of floodwater, although the situation has since improved. Senior officials, including the CE, are en route to the affected area. .
