District Collector Bhavesh Misra on Saturday asked the district officials to complete the sanitation works in the worst-ever affected Moranchapalli on a war-footing.
Touring the worst-hit village along with the local BRS MLA Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy, the district collector inspected the sanitation measures and infrastructure restoration works under way in the village.
He asked the officials to requisition the essential commodities required by the villagers by evening and hand them over to the flood victims. He also asked them to set up an Aadhaar Centre in the village as the villagers have lost their Aadhaar cards, voter Ids and other documents.
Further, he asked them to take steps to defogging the village and use chemicals to remove the stink amanating in the village.
Unprecedented rains lashed Chityala, Regonda and Ghanpur mandals of the district, the Moranchapalli stream was in spate and flooded the village, he said.
Acting on directions from the NDRF teams implemented relief measures and rescued more than 600 villagers and sent them to safer areas. The heavy rains cost the lives of two persons in Moranchapalli, while two others went missing. The NDRF teams are looking for them, he said.
He said that a report would be sent to the state government on the rain havoc in the village and would strive to get suitable compensation to the villagers.
Besides the MLA, BRS district president Gandra Jyoti Reddy consoled the villagers. They told the affected villagers to take all measures to extend full assistance to them on behalf of the state government. She said that the roads breached due to the floods have been restored temporarily by undertaking urgent repairs.
DRDO Purushottam, ZP CEO Vijayalakshmi, District Panchayat Officer Ashalata and other officials were present.
