West Godavari district Collector Sumit Kumar directed the officials concerned to take steps to provide better services to the pregnant and postnatal women and children.
The Collector held a meeting with the Women and Child Welfare department officers, CDPOs, Supervisors and other officials and reviewed the services being provided to the women and children.
Speaking on the occasion, Collector Sumit Kumar said that there should be no quality deficiency in the services being provided to children, pregnant women, postnatal women and infants. He told them that special attention should be given to the children of Anganwadi who are short in height and weight.
The Collector also directed the officials to pay special attention to the subjects taught to children in Anganwadi centres. Children have a high level of quick understanding and learning and appropriate ways of teaching should be adopted for this, he told them.
“Anemic pregnant women should be given extensive knowledge about the tablets and food to be taken. Regular intake of iron tablets, milk and eggs should be encouraged,” the Collector told the officials. The CDPOs should prepare briefings and provide information along with organizing training classes and the information will be beneficial only when it goes down to the lower level,” the Collector observed, asking to think how to train helpers and Anganwadi workers.
Collector Sumit Kumar ordered the officials to create complete awareness to the mothers on how to take care of the new born baby, how to take care of the children in what season and how to take care of fever after vaccination.
Pregnant women should be regularly examined to find whether they are taking nutritious food and grains, the Collector told them and ordered to take steps to ensure that no infant mortality and maternal mortality take place in the district. District Women and Child welfare officer B Sujata Rani and other officials were present.
