Deva Katta Returns with Political Thriller ‘Mayasabha’ Streaming August 7

Must read

Director Deva Katta, known for his sensible filmmaking in Prasthanam and Republic, hasn’t done many films over the years. Now, he is coming up with a web series titled Mayasabha: The Rise of the Titans, which has a political backdrop and is set to stream on Sony LIV from August 7.
The teaser of this web series was released on Saturday. After watching it, it appears the director may have drawn inspiration from political figures like Chandrababu Naidu and YS Rajasekhar Reddy to craft a fictional story for this web series.
Set in the mid-1990s in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh, Mayasabha is an intriguing political drama loosely inspired by a few landmark political events. The series traces the brotherly rivalry between two young politicians from opposing parties, following their parallel rise as invincible political titans in the state’s power corridors.

Packed with political coups, shifting loyalties, betrayals, and dramatic twists, the series explores the gritty underbelly of real-life politics.
Aadhi Pinisetty plays the role of Kakarla Krishnama Naidu, Chaitanya Rao essays MS Rami Reddy, and Divya Dutta features as Iravati Basu in key roles. Deva Katta and Kiran Jay Kumar have directed the series, while Vijay Krishna Lingamaneni and Sree Harsha have produced it.
In the teaser, a scene shows the State Chief Minister summoning his MLAs to a hotel, preparing to expel 35 of them. This hotel scene closely resembles a real-life incident when, during NTR’s tenure as Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu gathered MLAs at a private hotel. While the story is entirely fictional, one can certainly see resemblances to a few real-life incidents.
